Mrs. Michelle Gust Mrs. Janet Bassingthwaite
As my professional mentor, Mrs. Gust welcomed me into her kindergarten classroom on many occasions throughout the year. She let me observe, help out, and even teach. Her organization of her classroom and lessons taught me a lot about how to make a classroom run effectivly and keep students engaged. She let me come to conferences where I learned about how to effectivly interact with parents and lead in a way that creates community and an effective team. I also attended a staff meeting at Sunrise Elementary with Mrs. Gust. At this meeting I got to see how the leaders of the school work together to create a united front and solve problems to help make the school a place that they are proud to teach in. I also got to attend and chaperone a field trip to Bobcat, where I got to help lead students and assist them in this hands on learning experience. All of these experiences helped me to learn what it means to be a leader.

Mrs Gust and Mrs. Bassingthwaite were both wonderful mentors for the through the Emerging Leaders Academy Program. |
As my faculty mentor, Mrs. Bassingthwaite helps me to grow as a leader and as a person every day. She always has an open door and frequently has advice on different situations and how to go about them best as a leader and person. She teaches me daily what it means to be a leader by the open way she conducts her classes and promotes communication by bringing in her personal experience and letting others share as well. She also has a wealth of knowledge about how to be a professional in the field of Early Childhood Education, which is so important, expecially when promoting its importance and dealing with advocacy. She helped me learn about this a lot through involving us in a project with the other ECE programs that are trying to promote advocacy and resources for ECE to the state. A group of us helped to create a crosswalk that will be used in court to show statistics about ECE programs throughout ND. I also got to attend curriculum planning for ECE at the state capitol with Mrs. Bassingthwaite. Finally, I got to help clean and tour the Innovation School with Mrs. B. and a group of students. All of these experiences have helped me to become a professional and grow in my leadership skills as an educator and as a person.
