Freshman Year Projects:
-Christmas Cookies with the Sisters of Annunciation Monastery
A group of us went to bake cookies with the Sisters that are on our campus. A big part of being a leader is forming genuine relationships with people and reaching out. This was a great way to do this and be able to practice planning an event. This was such a fun experience and a great way to cultivate new relationships.
-Trip to North Dakota State Hospital and Anne Carlsen Center
We took a trip to Jamestown to visit the ND State Hospital and the Anne Carlsen center. This trip was a great way to see different ways to educate and work with individuals with a variety of needs. It was very eye opening and inspiring to be able to talk with and learn from individuals who work with people at these facilities. The people getting services from and working at these facilities were so kind hearted. It made me very excited to get the opportunity to serve many different people in different situations in my future vocation of teaching.

Sophmore Year Projects:
-Prom Dress Drive
A group of us organized a prom dress drive on campus for girls in Bismarck who could not afford a prom dress. We worked with the organization Carrie's Kids to get the prom dresses to girls who needed them. It was such a good experience learning about promoting a cause and was great to see dresses that were not being used being put to use through a great cause.

Bowling with the Sisters-
As an ELA class we took the opportunity to further our relationship with the Sisters by taking them out bowling. They are such good leaders themselves, so it was wonderful getting to learn from them and experience their joy and love. This was a great learning experience, figuring out the finances, timing, and planning. This was also a great way to practice the Benedictine Value of Hospitality. Overall, this was a wonderful experience. |
Junior Year Projects:
-No Excuses University
As a group, we organized penpals with a third grade class from Montana. It is a low socio-economic school. We skyped the class and promoted the idea of going to college. We also sent them some University of Mary gear to get them excited. It was really great getting to know my penpal. She was is so sweet and really eager to get to know eachother. It was great getting to form a relationship and hopefully guide her in the right direction.
-Early Childhood Crosswalk
For Mrs. Bassingthwaite, a small group of us made a crosswalk chart to show a great amount of information about Early Childhood Education in North Dakota. It was great to work with different organizations to get the information. It was a great learning experience and it is so good to know that our work will be used and referenced in the Early Childhood field in North Dakota for a while.
